What’s in a Lemon?

I was first introduced to the many benefits of lemons for fibromyalgia by my Mindfulness Coach a couple of years ago…I had no idea what was to come.

Coffee was my go to or rather crawl to, morning wake up call.  I had been a coffee addict for years but it started to elevate my symptoms on every level.  Struggling to find an alternative, my mindfulness coach suggested warm lemon water.  I was thinking more along the lines of decaf coffee, but the truth is…it’s just as bad as caffeinated with all the chemicals that are added.

So, there I was first thing in the morning…I have to add reluctantly, making myself warm lemon water, at the time I would have preferred cold or hot but my coach said, ‘no, for the best detox affect, drink it warm.  Without going into too much detail, I did find myself in the toilet more often. It Worked!

Lemons are loaded with awesome health benefits.

Alkaline – Lemon, once consumed becomes alkaline. The more alkaline your body is the healthier you become. Another benefit is, an alkaline diet can help you to lose weight quickly.

Pectin Fibre – Lemons are rich in pectin fibre which limits hunger pangs, which in turn will help you to lose or maintain your weight.

Vitamin C to boost your immune system – As well as the benefits to skin, vitamin C also plays many important roles in your body. One to name is fighting off bacterial and viral infections. If you do catch cold, it can also help shorten the duration of the illness. Don’t just use lemon water once you have a cold, and finish when it’s gone. Make lemon water a part of your every-day diet, to reap the most rewards.

Aid digestion and detoxification – Lemon juice contains citric acid. Citric acid helps with the process of digestion and production of digestive juices. Lemon juice is also known to aid your liver in flushing out toxins. If you suffer with bloating and gas, lemon water can also help in reducing these uncomfortable symptoms.

Anti-Aging and Glowing Skin – By drinking lemon water, you are helping to keep your skin glowing and slow down the aging process. Why? Because lemons are full of antioxidants that fight free radicals keeping your skin looking fab.

Vitamin C also helps your body produce collagen which is important for keeping skin young looking by reducing fine lines and wrinkles and keeping it looking healthy. (How much do you pay for a topical cream to do this?)
