This was my life pre-diagnosis and for several years after diagnosis…it’s a cruel, lonely place.

I was in search of answers!

How can I feel better?

What is fibromyalgia & what’s the cure?

The one place I was sure I would get answers was from my doctor, and I was left feeling even more hopless when my doctor confessed, he was at a loss as to what fibromyalgia or the cure was. 

So I started my own search. Well there are many different opinions as to what causes fibromyalgia, some of them resonate with me and some don’t.  As for a cure, I’ve been told by many people on social media, that their product will cure fibro, check out my thoughts on that one here. Next, a youtube video, supposedly from a fibromyalgia clinic, advising people with fibromyalgia to get their running shoes on and build up to a 5K run…umm, sorry, what?  One person suggested that covering the entire body with olive oil, and taking olive oil each day would treat all the symptoms of fibromyalgia…umm, I have fibromyalgia not dry skin! One doctor in the hospital suggested that I had constipation rather than fibromyalgia…Okie dokie!

Frustrating, is an understatement!

Seeking explanations for what is curently unknown can leave us feeling helpless, anxious, angry, frustrated and depressed, causing symptoms to spiral out of control.

So what to do?

It’s time to change perspective!

Rather than looking for a cure to this mystery condition, find different approaches to living with fibromyalgia.

I looked for people living with fibromyalgia who had taken their lives back and were managing their symptoms extremely well. What were they doing differently? 

Here’s what I found: They had changed their entire approach to living with fibromyalgia.  It was a lifestyle change that had made a huge difference in their lives. 

Change can feel overwhelming, let’s face it, when you’re feeling exhausted, in pain & weighed down with fibro fog, the last thing you feel like doing is changing your lifestyle.

Do you know where you want to be?

When starting out on any journey, you know your destination.  Life is no different!

Writing down where you are and where you want to be, gives you a direction and helps you to look at what you can change in order to reach your destination.

What natural changes have made the greatest impact on fibro symptoms?

Mindset

Thoughts are your thoughts negative or positive?

Nutrition

Pacing

Exercise (even if it’s very small stretches, any movement is good)

Medication.

I found that medication added significantly to my symptoms and never found any that actually helped me.  This may not be the case for you, and I am not suggesting that you stop your medication, this is a decision for you and your medical team. What I am suggesting is to keep an open mind and embrace as many natural changes in your life as you can and see what happens. 

Changing your perspective on life with fibromyalgia can help you to take back control of your life.  Just remember that making changes in life can feel overwhelming, especially when living with a chronic illness, it is a journey so be kind to yourself and go at your own pace.
