Do you know about the Gut-Brain Connection?
What’s the gut-brain connection? It’s known as the ‘gut-brain axis’ which is a system of connections and communication between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract. There are 100’s of millions of bacteria that live in your gastrointestinal tract or (GI), known as microbes. A healthly balance is in favour of good bacteria which then prevent the overgrowth of bad bacteria that harm health. If bad bacteria should outweigh good bacteria, it not only affects the health of your gut, but general physical health, including the health of your brain.
There is research that suggests infections in childhood could cause negative affects on the mucosal membrane in the GI tract, which in turn affects normal brain development. BUT there is also research that suggests the membrane can also be altered in other ways including: A Poor Diet.
There is ever increasing correlation between a diet that is crammed with highly processed, highly refined (simple) sugar foods and impaired brain function. I believe that by returning to a ‘Clean Diet’ we can significantly increase our overall health and reduce fibromyalgia symptoms all round, including fibro-fog.
You can help significantly increase the health of your gut which in turn will allow for more nutrients to reach your brain by upping the amount of pro-biotic food you eat each day.

You can also take a probiotic supplement alongside increasing your pro-biotic food, but do make sure you are buying a high quality product, there are so many out there that are just not worth the money you pay for them.

As well as upping your intake of pro-biotic foods, there are also many other foods that are a great boost for your brain and overall health! The list below is by no means exhaustive but it’s a great start.
Gluten can also have an impact on fibro-fog even if you aren’t diagnosed with celiac disease. It’s well worth substituting any products containing gluten for gluten free products. For a higher nutrient intake and gluten free you can switch flour to coconut flour, almond flour, Cassava flour (especially for people who have an nut allergy)
